The striking red-painted SkyView Treehouse is your very own retreat space in the Mountains of Western North Carolina. Relax on the deck, as you look all the way to Tennessee while you listen to the soothing sound of the Big Laurel Stream below. Gather around the propane tabletop fire pit to take off the chill as you watch the night sky full of stars. There is a Buck propane stove in the vaulted gathering area for your enjoyment as well. If you would rather have a wood burning fire pit, one is right outside your door
A recent guest, with multiple stays, sums up their experiences in SkyView perfectly: Quaint, Rejuvenating, and Heavenly. What could be better?
The gathering area is inviting, with plenty of casement windows to bring the outside in. The talent of local artisans along with those from the mid-west, add an aesthetically pleasing touch, as you leave your busy world behind. The full kitchen has all the essentials for a snack or complete meals. Be it a quick getaway, or to mark a romantic special occasion, you will be most pleased with this charming cabin experience
After taking in a day of outdoor adventure, or enjoying the fresh mountain air, you will be ready to fall into the comfy king bed, as you settle in for the evening.
The outdoors converges with the indoors given multiple casement windows, softened green walls, and artwork reflective of the area as well as our mid-west heritage. The vaulted ceiling makes for a very open feeling, as you enjoy this very inviting space. There is a mix of the cabin flare including a beautiful locally made quilt wall hanging, as well as antiques in terms of furnishings. There is a full futon in the central living area if extra sleeping space is needed. The bathroom shower is tiled, the floors are heated, and a skylight brings in extra light over the modern vanity. The kitchen has a full refrigerator, butcher block countertops, pots, pans, dishware, cooking and eating utensils, and a combination grill, air, fryer, and toaster. All you need to bring is the food. If you fancy tea, there is an electric tea kettle and blender for a smoothie.
Now a full outdoor fire pit has been added, so you can complete your outdoor experience with conversation and the traditional marshmallow, gram cracker, and chocolate treats.to cap off your evening
Visitors to Madison County, North Carolina will find themselves immersed in beautiful natural scenery, interesting tourist opportunities, and a relaxing break from wherever they came! The beautiful mountains of North Carolina are especially spectacular in the fall, where an array of reds and greens, and yellows will greet you in a setting that gives new meaning to the phrase, ‘outdoor cathedral.’
There is no lacking when it comes to outdoor adventure: hiking, biking, fishing, rafting, zipping, and now E-biking. You will find a complete binder of options, and contact information to plan your days at RiverDance. Whatever, the season, there is much to do and explore.
Both Hot Springs and Marshall are within a short distance of RiverDance. The Hot Spring Spa's mineral water makes for a perfect soak to top off your day. The Big Pillow Brewery has live music, and is a popular gathering spot. Check out the work of local artisan's at the Artisans Gallery, and you just might satisfy your sweet tooth with some ice cream. Bluff Mountain Outfitter, Gentry Hardware, and of course the Visitors Center full or rich history, is not to be missed. Marshall, a charming old river town, has two prominent gathering spots: Zuma's where you will find the best Blue Grass around the third Thursday each month, and Zadies which originally was the old jail, and now a great place to eat, while enjoying the French Broad River. Flow (Body and Adornment) one of my favorites, and other shops open their doors for you to pick up some treasures to take home. The fully renovated glove factory known as Capital Mill is a combination of residential, retail space, and a spa.
Outside explorations: Asheville, Black Mountain Area, Chimney Rock, Blowing Rock, Montreat, Billy Gram's The Cove, and the list goes on. Regardless of how you choose to spend your time while you are in the Blue Ridge Mountains, it will be memorable, and you will want to return after finding your mountain getaway.

At RiverDance we do have to collect the appropriate state use tax (6.75%) for North Carolina, but we avoid the Tourism Development Tax of 5% since we only have two suites. However, folks like Airbnb and Vrbo automatically collect that tax from you regardless of the number of units under management since it makes their life easier.
There is a $50 charge per dog per stay to pay for the extra cleaning that pets create.
Just stayed with Dave and Callie up at River Dance and OMG. My wife and I talked about our stay all the way home (3 1/2 hours) and finally decided upon 3 words to describe our getaway. Quaint – We’ve stayed at both of their airbnb rentals – River Haven and Sky View. Both rental properties were clean, and beautiful, and embraced what you would expect to find in the mountains of NC. The view from the bed in Sky View is absolutely Amazing. Rejuvenating – When you enter the Bear River Lodge property in many ways the stress and craziness of the world get put on hold. Whether you’re sitting on the deck at River Haven drinking morning coffee, hanging in a hammock, or listening to the sounds of Big Laurel River it’s easy to turn off the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Heavenly – I think this word is the most fitting to describe our stay. The mountains, Appalachian trail, Max Patch, Big Pillow brewery, downtown Marshall, and Hot Springs Resort (tub 15) all of which made our stay phenomenal. River Dance will always be our home away from home in the mountains of NC. We can’t wait to come back again- in October.
I think anywhere else we stay from now on will always be compared to RiverDance. I imagine we will say things like, this place is nice, but it is no RiverDance, Danielle B.

As our youngest headed off to college, it was time to strive for new adventures, and the magic of the North Carolina mountains called us to make Bear River Lodge our full time home. We opened opened our timber frame home, named RiverDance to guests, so that they too, could enjoy the amazing beauty that is so much part of this very special place. It came time to simplify our lives two years ago with less square footage so that we could spend more time with family and grandchildren. So, once again, we carried RiverDance forward to 55 Laurel Ridge. Both SkyView, and RiverHaven (Second Rental option on property) have been designed to create an exceptional mountaintop experience for our guests. It is a great place to call home as you venture out to explore all that Western North Carolina has to offer. We welcome you to RiverDance, your mountain getaway.
