This cottage is as exceptional as its history. Before it was turned into this one-level cozy mountain cabin, this place was an old tobacco barn and unique features can be spotted throughout the building. A little love and restoration have given the old structure life once more!
There are several cozy living spaces to choose from including a living room, a family room, and a den. The living room is set up with red accents throughout that pop against an all-wood interior and has a flat-screen satellite TV with a DVD/ VRC. This space is perfect for a family movie night! The den is a quiet little space ideal for curling up in the Papasan chair with a good book. Kids and nostalgic adults alike will enjoy the old arcade game set up in the family room.
The kitchen and dining room area provide ample space to prepare and enjoy a good meal. If the weather is nice, you might prefer grilling on the charcoal grill and enjoying your food out at the patio table. Even on rainy days, you can still soak in the hot tub. It is on a large, covered deck looking out over the fire pit and a horseshoe pit. On cold days, toss some wood into the wood-burning fire stove to warm up the cottage!
Sleeping arrangement: The Horseshoe Cottage sleeps up to 6 guests comfortably in its 3 bed, 2 bath layout. 2 bedrooms host queen beds while the third bedroom is perfect for children with its 2 twin size beds. Your pet is family too and is welcome to visit here as well!
The main ranch is 3 miles from the cottage, so it is a very private location. It offers free wifi, a full washer and dryer, and access to the community game room. Mix in the beautiful long-range mountain views that can be seen from the porch, this vacation rental is hard to beat.
Even on lazy days when you don’t want to go far, you can find something to do at Buffalo Creek resort. For the early risers, make your way down to feed the bison. Those who like to sleep in can still enjoy feeding some animals too.
The gift shop offers 25 cent animal treats to give to the barnyard animals that call this land home. The gift shop has also partnered with local attractions to provide you with pre-purchase ticket options and discounts, so be sure to ask about that when you stop in!
Lake Junaluska and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park are both wonderful places to spend your day outdoors. Stop in one of the nearby towns of Waynesville, Clyde, or Maggie Valley to shop and dine. Maggie Valley Opry House is a fun location to visit, as well as the local motorcycle museum called Wheels of Time.
Whether you are white water rafting the Nantahala or wandering around the grand Biltmore Estates, there is no wrong way to fill your time here!

We wanted to experience something with our seven-year old that would be exciting and unique for all three of us, and this fit the bill perfectly! Cheryl was always right on it with answers to our questions, the caboose was as cool as I’d hoped, the details are perfect, it’s a super cozy luxe suite with a loft our son adored, we all loved seeing the grazing buffalo right outside and the animals including llamas just a short walk away! I would highly Recommend the caboose for a unique adventure and fun for all! Theresa S., August 2016
My husband and I and our two children, (11 and 13-year-olds) stayed here with our two dogs for our winter break from school. We all fell in love with the cabin the minute we saw it. We did a lot of skiing in Maggie Valley and it was only a 15-20 minute drive there each day. We got very lucky and there was a lot of real snow the week we were there. It was beautiful. We all enjoyed coming back to the cabin and my son and husband would build a big fire to relax after a long day of skiing. My daughter and I enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub as well. My kid’s favorite thing was definitely the animals. They would make sure we got change every day before leaving Maggie Valley so they could get food for the animals out of the little machines and feed them each day. Cheryl and her family were all very helpful with any and all questions we had. We lost water for just a short time one afternoon but someone was out within a few minutes of reporting the issue. It was due to the extremely cold temps but was fixed immediately. We were very impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of everyone. We definitely plan to return, my daughter asked if we could move there.

Buffalo Creek Vacations is a family owned & operated business. Our dad, along w/ our mom, Harriet Clackett, made the move to the beautiful Smoky Mountains in 1994. We all just fell in love with the area & all that it has to offer from hiking & waterfalls in the summer to the beautiful foliage in the fall, skiing in the winter & new baby bison being born in the springtime.
We also purchased several cabooses that were relocated to the property & we renovated them and started renting them out! We hope you love the mountains like we have all come to!
