Come stay in this lodge and be where the Buffalo roam at Buffalo Creek resort. This cozy traditional log cabin has a welcoming front porch that spans the length of the house and a porch swing to rock away in. Inside, wooden walls stretch up onto the ceiling on either side of the stone hearth. Above the wood-burning fireplace is a flat-screen TV equipped with satellite and DVD/ VCR. Cozy couches beg to be snuggled into for a movie night by the fire.
A charcoal grill means you don’t need to use the large full kitchen except to make up some popcorn! Hot dogs and marshmallows can be roasted over the fire pit that overlooks beautiful mountain views. Bison Overlook backs up to the ranch’s Barnyard so guests staying here may get the chance to see mini horses and goats while soaking in the hot tub on the back deck.
Sleeping arrangement: At the end of the day, guests will have 3 bedrooms to choose from. On the main floor, there is a queen-sized bed in one room and a twin-sized bunk bed in another. The master suite is on the upper level with a unique hanging queen-sized bed that is suspended from the wooden beam rafters, and its private full bathroom. A second full bathroom is available on the main floor. A futon in the loft pulls out to create sleeping space for 2 more guests, allowing up to 8 guests total to comfortably stay in this vacation rental.
The entire basement is home to a game room perfect for any family’s game night! There is a pool table, a foosball table, air hockey, and shuffleboard available to play. If you have brought along your family pet to this pet-friendly cabin, take them out for a game of fetch in the big open backyard, or take the kids down to the nearby playground. Watch them scale a rock wall, zoom down the slide, and swoosh through the air on the zip line while you play a round of horseshoe in the horseshoe pit.
If you need someone to challenge you to a game, swing by Buffalo Creek’s community game room where they offer games and free movie rentals to take back to your lodge. Go by their souvenir shop and buy some animal treats to feed to the barn animals or inquire about pre-purchased tickets and discounts for any of the local attractions nearby.
During the summer, Lake Junaluska is a hot spot for kayaking and paddle boards, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is perfect for white water rafting or fly fishing! The winter months bring their own kind of fun. Snow tubing and skiing are popular pastimes in the area. If you come during the Christmas season, you will be treated to Buffalo Creek’s holiday decorations all throughout the resort. They spare no effort in making the area feel like a winter wonderland.

This was a perfect trip! My wife & I took our 3 boys & to them, animals & trains are just as exciting as Disney World! Though it is secluded, it is also centrally located to many adventurous locations. We look forward to visiting again. Simpsonville, SC April 2018
Excellent cabin! Great customer service! It was very quiet and secluded but still reasonably close to Asheville, Maggie Valley, and Cherokee. We went to watch the Bison get feed, definitely a must! Cheryl even provided a small amount of firewood, perfect for an evening or two of Smores. The game room was great, the kids loved it. The hot tub was very relaxing, just make sure to check the temp as soon as you get there. It is cleaned and refilled after every stay so the temp is most likely adjusted down. The playground is neatly tucked away in the woods just down from the top of a hill. It is a good play area and the hike was not too bad. I’m pretty sure the OLDER KIDS (adults) enjoyed the scenery more. Will certainly be back! Joan Taylor, SC
We wanted to experience something with our seven-year old that would be exciting and unique for all three of us, and this fit the bill perfectly! Cheryl was always right on it with answers to our questions, the caboose was as cool as I’d hoped, the details are perfect, it’s a super cozy luxe suite with a loft our son adored, we all loved seeing the grazing buffalo right outside and the animals including llamas just a short walk away! I would highly Recommend the caboose for a unique adventure and fun for all! Theresa S., August 2016
My husband and I and our two children, (11 and 13-year-olds) stayed here with our two dogs for our winter break from school. We all fell in love with the cabin the minute we saw it. We did a lot of skiing in Maggie Valley and it was only a 15-20 minute drive there each day. We got very lucky and there was a lot of real snow the week we were there. It was beautiful. We all enjoyed coming back to the cabin and my son and husband would build a big fire to relax after a long day of skiing. My daughter and I enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub as well. My kid’s favorite thing was definitely the animals. They would make sure we got change every day before leaving Maggie Valley so they could get food for the animals out of the little machines and feed them each day. Cheryl and her family were all very helpful with any and all questions we had. We lost water for just a short time one afternoon but someone was out within a few minutes of reporting the issue. It was due to the extremely cold temps but was fixed immediately. We were very impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of everyone. We definitely plan to return, my daughter asked if we could move there.

Buffalo Creek Vacations is a family owned & operated business. Our dad, along w/ our mom, Harriet Clackett, made the move to the beautiful Smoky Mountains in 1994. We all just fell in love with the area & all that it has to offer from hiking & waterfalls in the summer to the beautiful foliage in the fall, skiing in the winter & new baby bison being born in the springtime.
We also purchased several cabooses that were relocated to the property & we renovated them and started renting them out! We hope you love the mountains like we have all come to!
